Q: Hi Athena! I saw your site through twitter and my question to you is this: I want to find a career that I’m passionate about but I have no idea what my purpose is. How did you find out what you wanted to do & can you help me do the same? – Londiwe
The best place to start is by simply letting yourself off the hook, for now!
Feeling anxious will lock you in a state of confusion which will ultimately make it harder for you to move forward.
Take a step back & actively allow this to be a time of self-awareness, as opposed to one of panic and doubt.
Stop comparing your journey with that of your friends as that just compounds self-doubt!
Now, what do you want to experience more of ?
Who do you admire and why?
There’s also a tendency to have everything figured out straight away which is just exhausting!
No-one has everything sussed out & if they do they’ve left no room for mystery.
When you discover what your talents and gifts are (an exercise in self-worth) you can follow through with sharing them with the world.
The way to discover what your gifts and talents are, is by simply first believing that you have them & then reflecting on what you naturally lean towards and why.
Getting clear on the ‘why’ part is helpful because it shows you what you value.
Lastly, my journey has by no means been a linear one. It’s easy to look at others and assume that their paths have been direct or easy.
Figuring what you want to do can be incredibly tough, especially for people who are multi-talented.
Trust that you can make the right decisions for you.
